One Coronation Street star has teased a potential wedding for her character on the hit ITV soap, causing excitement for ITV soap fans
One Coronation Street star has hinted at the possibility of another wedding on the horizon for the soap.
As Gail Platt, portrayed by Helen Worth, gears up to tie the knot with Jesse Chadwick on Christmas Day and contemplates a move to France, she remains blissfully ignorant of her family’s drama.
The question on everyone’s mind is whether Gail will find her fairy-tale ending or leave Weatherfield single.
In the midst of the yuletide nuptial excitement, Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassie Plummer on the show, took to Instagram with a nostalgic post. She shared an old photo from her days on Brookside, where she played Lindsey Corkhill from 1991 to 2003.
The actress penned: “The only time I have ever been married was on telly in Brookie, to the lovely Peter played by Sam Kane who went on to marry @lindalusardi in real life. Happy times in Brookie.”
Teasing her future on Coronation Street, she added: “Who knows….. might be Steve McDonald next, or maybe Cassie is too busy poisoning Kenny?”, reports Lancs Live.
Fans were quick to engage, with one commenting: “Love watching you, your a great actress xxxx” complete with heart emojis. Others reminisced about Brookside, with comments like: “What a throwback! Loved Brookie”, “That’s going back a bit! You still look amazing! Loved Brookside!” and “I remember that episode like it was yesterday.”
It comes as over the festive season, Tracy Barlow grows worried for her father Ken Barlow as Cassie continues to work as his carer. On Christmas Day, Ken is thrilled to unwrap a gift from Cassie – an album by a favourite composer.
In return, he gives her a scarf from Porto, which she’s equally delighted with.
Later in the week, Steve McDonald informs Ken of his plans to find his own place, while Ken notices an upset Cassie. She breaks down in tears, claiming she’s accumulated a large debt buying gifts for the family.
As the week progresses, Ken shares his enthusiasm for ballet with Cassie, apologising for not being much company due to his exhaustion. The following day, Tracy and Steve are shocked to find Cassie wearing Steve’s dressing gown.
She explains that she stayed over to care for Ken while Steve was working a night shift.
Cassie enjoys teasing the pair, pretending she has feelings for Ken. She later confides in Ken about feeling inferior to him due to him being cultured, educated and kind natured. Unbeknownst to Ken, she’s manipulating him.
A concerned Tracy warns Steve that Cassie is trying to ensnare Ken and advises against him moving out, pleading with him to stay.
Later in the week, Tracy confronts Cassie over a suspicious wage advance from her dad Ken. Worried about her father’s wellbeing while she’s away in Spain, Tracy tasks Steve and Amy with keeping a close eye on Cassie.
However, the pair dismiss her concerns as unnecessary worry. Will Tracy’s suspicions turn out to be right?
Coronation Street is on ITV1 at 8pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and on ITV X and STV.
