Carla Connor (Alison King) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) have a rocky festive period ahead of them, having made their relationship official in recent Coronation Street scenes.
With the pair having been together for a few weeks, Carla decides it is time to announce to the Underworld staff that they are an item, but Lisa is left mortified when Betsy makes a sarcastic comment.
Determined not to let Betsy get to them, Carla invites her to join them for dinner at the Bistro so they can start afresh, but when she brings Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) along, how will Lisa react?
Just before New Year, disaster strikes for the Swains when a pipe bursts in their flat, leaving the place flooded.
Thankfully, Carla soon offers to put them up, and they waste no time in moving their things into Carla’s flat.
However, as they do so, Carla spots some files relating to Becky’s death among Lisa’s belongings, and she’s left feeling awkward.
The next day, Lisa surprises Carla with a romantic lunch, but their bliss is shattered when the detective sergeant gets an urgent call to an incident.
Put out, Carla informs Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) of Lisa’s whereabouts, just as Kit gets a call from the very same address requesting urgent backup…
Later, Lisa returns sporting a bruised face and split lip, but assures a worried Carla that she is fine, if in need of an alcoholic drink.
As Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) rings the bell in the Rovers to signal the countdown to midnight, Carla tells Lisa that she loves her – but how will Lisa respond? Does she feel the same?
The next day, things take a horrifying turn for the couple.
When Roy Cropper (David Neilson) notices that Carla is confused and seems to be hearing things, he is left worried and tells her to go home and rest.
Unable to shake his nagging fear, Roy pops round to check on her, and is horrified to find her barely conscious on the living room floor.
He is quick to call for an ambulance, and when Carla arrives at the hospital, the doctors inform Roy that they suspect she has sepsis.
Meanwhile, a completely oblivious Lisa continues her investigation into Matty Radcliffe (Seamus McGoff), still convinced he had something to do with her wife’s murder.
When she later arrives home with flowers and wine for Carla, she is surprised to find the flat empty.
Later, Carla is shocked to learn that the sepsis has damaged her kidney, and she may need another transplant.
When Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) returns home from visiting Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) in Ireland, Lisa is horrified to realise that Carla has lied about her whereabouts.
Lisa rushes to the hospital and makes it clear to her girlfriend that she doesn’t appreciate being lied to.
However, Carla makes out that it’s nothing serious and she’s on the mend, and insists that she doesn’t want any fuss.
Hurt, Lisa decides to leave her to it.
Will Carla ever come clean to Lisa about how serious her condition is?
