A major Coronation Street couple is set to get engaged over the festive period – but will everything go to plan?
Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) and Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) look set to get their relationship back on track in upcoming scenes when they head to Speed Daal for a meal, accidentally interrupting a moment between Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) when they’re seated at the next table.
The next day, Daniel is thrilled to find Bethany dressed to the nines, delighted that she seems to be feeling more like her old self.
When Bethany presents Daniel with his Christmas present – an expensive vintage watch – she is disheartened when he seems to be underwhelmed.
Upset, she confronts him, having convinced herself that he doesn’t want to be with her anymore.
Daniel is quick to assure her that she couldn’t be more wrong, before completely shocking her with his next move.
As Daniel gets down on one knee and proposes, is it enough to convince Bethany of his feelings for her?
The next day, Bethany thanks Daisy for looking after the clothes she had wanted to throw out, and reveals that she would like them back now that she’s feeling more confident.
The following week, Daisy heads to the builder’s yard flat with a bag full of Bertie’s toys, where she tells Daniel that it is for the best if she cuts ties with Bertie for good.
How will Daniel react?
Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks has revealed that things won’t be plain sailing for Daniel and Bethany with Daisy around, and viewers can expect their love triangle to continue into the new year.
‘It’s a brilliant love triangle that keeps on giving and we will certainly carry that through December and into the new year,’ the former Emmerdale chief told us.
‘Daniel is in love with two women, that’s what it boils down to, he loves Bethany but he also loves Daisy, and not many people can pull that off – but if anyone can, a Barlow can!
‘He is absolutely torn over what to do for the best, and it’s ultimately his head over his heart but sometimes when you make a little mistake, things can come back and bite you on the bum!’
Explaining why she feels the situation has legs, Kate continued: ‘For me, the rivalry between Daisy and Bethany is fantastic, it’s so fun to watch, and it feels nice and soapy which I think is what we want to do with that story.
‘Obviously, there are other issue-led stories around it, but for me that love triangle dynamic, is going to be super exciting as we wonder what the heck Daniel is going to do and how will he ever get out of those holes that he finds himself in constantly?
‘What I love about it as well is there are no good guys or bad guys in it, it’s just these three people have found themselves in this situation and they just want to find their own happiness, but obviously sometimes when you find the happiness, it comes at a cost.’
