Amelia Flanagan has played April Windsor in Emmerdale since 2014 but fans may not know she has a close connection to another big ITV soap
Amelia Flanagan, known for her role as April Windsor in ITV’s Emmerdale, has a unique family connection to the world of soaps.
Amelia has been portraying April since 2014 and has earned several accolades for her performances.
In nail-biting upcoming scenes, April will be caught in a harrowing situation when she becomes a target of Jade’s friends. Ross Barton, played by Mike Parr, discovers April in a precarious position near a car park as Jade continues her extortion. The outcome of this tense episode is set to unfold on Thursday 5 December.
Outside of her work on Emmerdale, Amelia is the elder sister to Isabella and William Flanagan, who both appear on Coronation Street. Isabella plays Hope Stape, Fiz’s daughter, while William takes on the role of Joseph Brown, Chesney’s son, reports Leeds Live.
The siblings often garner acclaim for their acting skills. In a twist of fate, Amelia and Isabella found themselves competing at the 2022 Inside Soap Awards for the Best Young Performer category, with Isabella taking home the award.
Isabella shared insights into the dynamics of having soap star siblings during the awards event. Speaking to Inside Soap, she revealed: “There are so many debates at home whenever there are awards ceremonies. Me and my brother are team Corrie and my sister is obviously team Emmerdale, so it does get a bit heated sometimes!”.
Amelia has admitted that while she’s staunchly “Team Emmerdale”, her siblings cheer for “Team Corrie”. Yet, she insists their light-hearted family rivalry is never serious, stating: “It’s never competitive”.
She recalls cherished memories of how they’ve supported each other’s acting endeavours, sharing: “I’ve run lines with Bella where she’s played Hope and I’ve pretended to be a character from Coronation Street, and she’s done the same with me, so it’s fun!”.
Despite the playfully competitive spirit, Amelia has visited the Coronation Street set along with her siblings Isabella and William, taking the opportunity to snap a photo with Jude Riordon, who portrays Sam in Corrie.
Reflecting on familial inspiration within their craft, Isabella credits her older sister Amelia as her role model in acting.
Reciting from The Mirror, Isabella conveyed her long-standing desire to act and the influence of watching her sister, saying: “I’ve wanted to be on TV for a long time, my sister has been in Emmerdale since she was five and I love watching her, my audition was a really fun script and I was so excited when Ology (casting agency) rang my mum to give us the good news.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV at 7.30pm
