EastEnders return confirmed for major character – just weeks after saying goodbye

This article contains spoilers for Monday’s episode of EastEnders, which airs tonight on BBC One but is already available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) has made a chilling return – and has already put ex-wife Suki’s (Balvinder Sopal) wedding to Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) in jeopardy.

The last time we him in Walford was in the back of a police car as he took responsibility for Keanu Taylor’s (Danny Walters) murder.

Knowing he’d soon succumb to his terminal illness, Nish agreed to take the blame. The six women who were the real culprits firmly believed that their ordeal was over, though that could soon change.

Before he departed, Nish made a deal with Suki that would secure her freedom. He told her that if she agreed to continue visiting him inside prison in his final months, he would continue to take the blame.

He also asked her never to marry another person whilst he was alive.

Eve found out about the pact, and wasn’t pleased! After demanding answers, she learnt about the Christmas Day murder.

Last week, Nish’s son Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) detailed his daughter Avani Nandra-Hart’s (Aaliyah James) turmoil to Denise Fox (Diane Parish), explaining that her grandfather’s imprisonment had prompted school peers to turn on her.

He also said that his dad’s plea hearing was soon approaching…

After breaking off their engagement and darting to Brighton, Eve returned in today’s episode, and made peace with Suki’s co-conspirator Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner).

Stacey encouraged her to make amends with Suki, though after a difficult conversation, she couldn’t bring herself to forgive her.

Eve stormed out, but later realised that she needed to step up and be there for Suki during her hour of need. After all, she’s had a pretty awful year!

During the Albert Square Christmas lights switch-on, Suki told Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) of her heartbreak and was stunned when Eve jumped on the microphone to declare her love and forgiveness for her fiancée.

She directly addressed the situation, speaking about the ability to love someone despite their mistakes.

Following her impassioned speech, Eve approached Suki and apologised – and the two shared a heartfelt kiss.

However, as the happiness unfolded, a sinister phone call came through from Nish to his grandson Nugget (Juhaim Rasul Choudhury).

Nish tore strips off his grandson, guilt-tripping him for not visiting before his plea hearing. It became clear that he had an ulterior motive, and the chat soon turned to Suki and Eve.

Nugget told him that they’d reunited during the switch-on, and that they were due to tie the knot again.

Enraged that his ex-wife hadn’t kept to his plan, Nish hung up, clearly plotting his next move.

Should Suki and Eve be worried?
