Lisa was by Carla’s side as she ended up in hospital in the ITV soap’s latest scenes
Coronation Street fans were left fearing DS Lisa Swain would be ‘hated’ as they spotted her untimely move. The character has been burning the candle at both ends trying to solve crime, improve her relationship with her daughter and battle her feelings for Carla Connor.
And it all came to a head during Wednesday night’s (November 27) edition of the ITV soap. Earlier this week, Corrie viewers saw Underworld boss Carla was left fighting for her life earlier this week after being attacked during a robbery at the factory.
Lisa’s daughter Betsy Swain was seen trying to help pal Mason Radcliffe by getting his brothers, Matty and Logan, off his back as they start to spread their terrorisation across the street. She told Mason that his troublesome brothers were no longer a concern due to a deal she had made with them.
It was later revealed that Betsy had set it up so that the brothers could burgle the knicker factory in exchange for leaving Mason alone. Betsy got her moment to execute her plan as a bonding day took place for the factory workers, meaning the workplace was empty – or that was until Carla returned.
Betsy got her moment to execute her plan as a bonding day took place for the factory workers, meaning the work place was empty – or that was until Carla returned and was hit over the head before the brothers did a flit when she began to stir.
But, as she tried to fix the mess in the factory, she sadly she collapsed towards the end of the episode, and was found unconscious by Betsy who phone for an ambulance. As Carla was rushed to hospital, Betsy confided in her mother, DS Swain, about about them both leading them to dash to her side.
There, they discovered the worrying news from Ryan Connor that Carla had suffered a brain haemorrhage and needed immediate surgery. During episode of Corrie, viewers saw Lisa spending the night by Carla’s bedside willing her to wake up following her emergency operation.
But within the blink of an eye, Carla seemingly appeared on the mend, even managing to have a joke with Roy Cropper about her feelings for Lisa. She managed to speak to Lisa who said she couldn’t tell her much about the investigation into what happened at the factory.
However, later, Carla was seen being paid a visit by Betsy and having had time to think; she had already worked out the teen was behind the assault, having been the one who found her and handled keys to the factory. She later prepared to tell Lisa the truth, only to change her mind when the detective sergeant offloaded about a possible new line of enquiry in her late partner’s death in the line of duty.
And it was Swain’s emotional offload to Carla while still laid up in her hospital bed that got viewers talking. @CoHesl said: “Cannot believe Lisa thought fit to trauma dump on a woman not long after brain surgery wtf #corrie.” @OliReading wrote: “#Corrie Carla sympathising with Lisa when Carla is the one in hospital!”
@phabiansz commented: “‘Look, Carla, I’m really sorry about your brain bleed and the fact that you’ve had brain surgery, but can we comfort ME!’ Lisa, I fear the nation will hate you by 9pm if you don’t pull this back.” @thebillyraybrad posted: “How come the one just out of surgery is the one doing the comforting?? I’m all for swarla fellas but we have to start doubting if this relationship isn’t all one-sided
But @agnespuzzler shared: “Carla is lisa’s comfort person who she feels she can confide in. at first i didn’t agree with her offloading to carla when my girl is literally in a hospital bed, but lisa needed someone and she only has carla. carla helps her feel safe. they get through it together. #corrie.” @swiftlyivy added: “‘You can tell me anything, anytime, you know that’. Carla being the one in the hospital bed yet she’s comforting lisa, she’s got such a big heart, i need lisa to be taking care of carla now #corrie.”
Others, meanwhile, have demanded that the blossoming couple be ‘protected’ as they praised Lisa actress Vicky Myers. @sianelizxx wrote: “Protect #swarla at all costs.” @cherby77 commented: “Such brilliant actresses and such a beautiful and important story that feels so natural. They totally belong together.” @chloe.holland7 posted: “@vicksmyers delivering another acting masterclass! how lucky we are to have you!” @woodstocklex added: “Taking @coronationstreet to another level, @vicksmyers. Bravo.”
