Coronation Street Rosie Webster’s return ‘sealed’ for tragic new death storyline

One Coronation Street icon could be making a surprise comeback, 24 years after they made their debut on the cobbles

Coronation Street’s Rosie Webster might be making an unexpected return, 24 years after their first appearance on the cobbles.

The character, played by Helen Flanagan, made her debut on the soap in 2000 when she was just nine years old and quickly won over fans. Over the years, viewers have watched her grow up on the long-standing show as Sally (Sally Dynevor) and Kevin’s (Michael Le Vellkk) defiant daughter.

It’s safe to say she’s been involved in several major storylines on the cobbles. From shocking affairs to grooming and kidnapping, her time in Weatherfield was anything but dull. In 2012, Helen chose to leave the soap to explore other acting roles. That same year, she also had a memorable stint on I’m A Celebrity.

After briefly returning in 2017, Helen left again in 2018 to go on maternity leave for her daughter Delilah. She hasn’t been seen since, reports Plymouth Live.

However, this week, reports emerged that Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) – Rosie’s aunt – is due to be written out of the show. According to these reports, actress Sue Devaney will deliver a heart-wrenching performance as her character faces a dementia diagnosis in the near future. The upcoming storyline, set to unfold in 2025, is described as “long-running” and “guaranteed to be heartbreaking.”

A source spilled the beans to Metro: “It’s one of the show’s biggest storylines of the year and a real opportunity for Sue to shine but its going to crush fans because it’ll essentially be her swansong.”

Fans are buzzing with speculation that Debbies juicy new plotline may pave the way for Rosies return to the scene. On X, someone speculated: “Hoping that this storyline with Debbie leads to a Webster revival with Rosie and Sophie returning.”

Another chimed in: “I’d love to see Rosie or Sophie back on the cobbles”. A third commented: “Back for Debbie’s funeral.” Meanwhile, another person simply hoped: “Even if only one comes back I’ll be happy.”

To add fuel to the fire, bookmakers are betting on Rosies return to the street. Putting their money where their mouth is, Gambling.com has given odds of 4/7 for Rosie actor Helen to make her soap comeback next year, and even better odds of 8/13 for a return before the year is out.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
