Coronation Street’s Will Mellor’s ‘hidden’ talent branded ‘incredible’ by returning soap star

Will Mellor surprised fans with a video on his Instagram as he performed at a charity event

Coronation Street actor Will Mellor took to social media to share his “hidden talent” as returning soap star Ryan Thomas branded his performance as “incredible.”

Will Mellor joined the ITV soap in 2021 as drug gangster Harvey Gaskell before he was arrested in 2024 after killing Natasha Blakeman who he mistook for Leanne Battersby after seeking revenge.

The actor has had various other roles as Jambo Bolton in Hollyoaks, Jack Vincent in Casualty and Gaz Wilkinson in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. He also starred in the hit BBC show Mr Bates vs The Post Office as subpostmaster Lee Castleton.

When previously asked whether he’d return to fulfil his role as Harvey, the actor replied: “”I don’t like to overdo things, and when I first played Harvey it was going in for [the special]. And I thought that was gonna be the end,

“They said ‘we want him to come back for a bit’ so I looked at the storyline and it was about [Sam] wanting to ask questions why he’d killed his mum and why he behaved the way he behaved. I thought that was really interesting. It was like this tough exterior guy and he gets unpacked by this young kid, and he makes him look at himself.”

He continued: “I think I’ve done everything I need to do with it, and sometimes you can do too much and keep going back. And it sort of weakens the character and weakens the storyline, and I don’t want to do that. Sometimes, it’s better to leave it where it is.”

Taking to his Instagram on Wednesday (12th March), Will posted a clip of him singing Bring Him Home at Gorton Monastery at an event held for the When You Wish Upon a Star charity that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses.

He wrote: “Not my usual style but absolutely loved singing this song from Les Miserables at Gorton Monastery for @whenyouwishuk last night! So many fantastic performances and such a great night of music.”

Ryan Thomas, who confirmed his brief return to Coronation Street this year as his on-screen mum Sue Cleaver is set to leave, showed support for Will as he commented: “That’s incredible mate”.

Paddy McGuiness also showed the star some love as he wrote: “Belting pal.” to which Will responded: “@mcguinness.paddy cheers mate! X”.

On Thursday (13th March), Will made a follow up video to thank his followers for all of their support. He said: “My phone and my social media has gone absolutely mad in the last 24 hours since I posted that video of me singing bring him home

“Thank you so much for all your comments it really means the world. Singing and music has been a huge passion of mine for years, I put it on the back burner because I thought it would affect my acting career negatively and I wouldn’t get any work and that’s how I paid my bills and looked after my family, I couldn’t risk it.”

He continued: “I should listen to my own advice and do what I’m passionate about… I’m going to do some more music”. The actor also shared that “comments changed my mindset”.
