Coronation Street fans say ‘RIP’ as they realise real loss for David Platt in death plan

The dramatic scenes havent stopped for the character, played by Jack P Shepherd, in recent months

Coronation Street fans were quick to respond as they realised the real loss for David Platt after his failed death plan. The dramatic scenes haven’t stopped for the character in recent months.

After threats from gangster Harvey Gaskell, and Max Turner’s botched insurance job as he set the Platt family home on fire, David, played by actor Jack P Shepherd, planned his own death.

As fans know, David took the money, originally offered by Harvey’s brother Damon Hay to help Sarah Platt with Bethany’s medical fees after her botched surgery in Turkey, to buy his beloved family home from his mum, Gail, as she left the Street after 50 years.

Fast forward to earlier this month, after a number of threats that made it clear David and his family were being targeted by Harvey from behind bars, the youngest of Gail’s children was seen deciding to take drastic action.

After Andy Garland found him at Audrey Roberts’ salon and confronted him with a knife, saying Harvey wanted him dead for his life insurance, David managed to emerged unscathed.

But he later called Andy back to the salon and asked him to take his life as it was the only way to keep his family safe, before planning for Andy to run him over with a car in the middle of the Street.

When David’s plan played out, he was seen spending time writing notes to his family and talking to his grandmother Audrey Roberts, with his inner monologue heard throughout as he counted down to 2pm, the moment he planned for Andy to plough into him in the middle of the street.

When the final moments began, David stood in the middle of the road. A car then came hurtling at speed, and Shona watched in horror as David was ploughed in to, with Daisy Midgeley caught in the crossfire and she has since lost her unborn child.

Jack has now taken to social media and shared a number of behind the scenes photos from the filming of the scenes and the shock aftermath which saw David fighting for his life, with medics almost losing him but managing to bring him back round.

In a number of the photos, Jack looked bloodied and bruised before he was seen in his fake hospital bed, where the white sheets had turned red with fake blood.

“Here’s all behind the scenes pics and vids I took while filming the recent eps,” the 37-year-old captioned the Instagram post. “It was a great block that everybody worked so hard on and I think all departments got something out of it. We hope you all enjoyed as much as we enjoyed making it @coronationstreet.”

Some of the snaps, even knowing they were fake, knocked some fans sick. Others, however, couldn’t help but notice the state of David’s trusty denim jacket and pointed out it was in fact the casualty of the whole stunt.

@claireabow26 said: “Aww, your best denim jacket is ruined.” @michelle_wi11 commented: “Noooooo! Not David’s favourite denim jacket!!!!!” @kasrasadeghian asked: “So is that the end of the denim jacket?”

@xjoannestewart replied: “RIP to the denim jacket!!!” @samcgooderham posted: “Very realistic!! But noooo the denim jacket.” @mrskimbo2562016 joked: “Is there a go fund me for a new denim jacket?” @nat.tennant added: “Does that mean David can get a new jacket now? In all seriousness though that was a great episode.”
