Coronation Street star Paddy Bever responded to his character’s ‘haters’ as he was seen making an emotional exit from the show after four years.

It’s been no secret that the actor will be bowing out of the ITV soap after joining in 2021 as the new face of David Platt’s steps-on Max Turner.

Paddy took over the role to the son of David’s late wife Kylie Platt, from Harry McDermott, who played the role from 2010 but left to continue with his acting studies and explore other opportunities before the re-casting back in 2021.

He quickly found himself involved some of the soap’s most controversial storylines, including where Max was groomed by a far-right gang before he ultimately helped stop a bomb going off in the middle of the Street.

But now, Max has found himself behind bars again, this time for starting the fire that saw the Platts’ beloved family home destroyed. In scenes aired in February, a rag soaked in petrol was posted through the house’s front door along with some lit matches.

He later become trapped inside and after being rescued and put into a coma, he made a recovery but only to be arrested after he was revealed to have started the first, attempted an insurance job to help his step-dad pay back gangster Harvey Gaskell after he started to target them.

It was earlier this month that Max was given his sentence. The judge took into account Max’s apparent remorse and guilty plea but with that alongside his premeditated actions and suspended sentence didn’t bode well for the teen.

The judge revealed that Max would be spending six and a half years behind bars. He was left shocked by the outcome and called out to David, who was in the public gallery, for support.

Due to Harvey’s threats, Max has been moved to a prison in Scotland and during Wednesday night’s (March 12), episode, the teen was speaking to David on the phone from his new prison. Telling him how it is, Max said: ““Fine, better than I expected to be honest. You can stop worrying. I’m fine, I just haven’t heard anything about Harvey which is good so hopefully that’s all sorted.”

Before David could tell Max what had been happening at home, with David surviving at attempt to orchestrate his own death, sister Lily snatched the phone and began telling her brother all about the gossip from her school.

Once Lily brought the phone back, Max told David: “It’s fine. I’m not going to pretend it’s nice in here, but it’s OK. I’m OK, I’m good. And I’m going to keep my head down and get through it.” David replied: “That’s really good that Max. I’m glad to hear it. I love you Max.”

Following his final scenes, Corrie shared a video of Paddy sharing a short but sweet message to sign off his time on the Cobbles. He said: “Hey, so if you are watching this, it means that you have also watched Max’s exit and therefore you know I am parting ways with this role and the show.

“That comes with a huge cocktail of emotions because I’ve had the most wonderful time tuned in – to everyone who loves Max, thank you. To everyone who hates Max, thank you.”

He added: “He’s certainly been very complex and a real privilege to play. To be part of the Platts family and be part of an amazing team for three years has been incredible. It’s been some very formative years for me and it’s a very strange feeling that it’s coming to an end. This has definitely been amongst the hardest decisions of my life as I’ve just had the most amazing time.”

Paddy’s Corrie co-star, Shona Platt actress Julia Goulding, was quick to respond, admitting: “I won’t pretend I’m not heartbroken to see you go but I’m excited to see you fly! Love you Paddington you absolute star!”
