Emmerdale’s Natalie Ann Jamieson admits ‘I fell in love’ as she speaks out about soap exit

Natalie said goodbye to Amy Wyatt as her funeral aired on Emmerdale

Emmerdale actress Natalie Ann Jamieson wrote a heartfelt goodbye to her character Amy Wyatt as her funeral took place on Thursday.

Natalie has starred as Amy since 2019 when the character was brought back onto the soap. Chelsea Halfpenny had played Amy for three years between 2010 and 2013.

On February 20, fans said their final goodbye to Amy as she died from a cardiac arrest after suffering from severe hypothermia. The aftermath of the Valentine’s limo crash claimed three lives – Suzy Merton, Leyla Harding and Amy Wyatt.

In harrowing scenes, Amy was plunged into the water of the frozen lake after the ice cracked beneath her feet. While under the water, she tried to claw her way back up to the surface but struggled to find the gap.

During Thursday’s instalment, Amy’s husband Matty, her mum Kerry Wyatt and other close friends and family all joined together to say goodbye. Set in nature as that’s what Amy loved most, the villagers shared how grateful they were to have known Amy all this time.

After the funeral episode aired, Natalie took to her Instagram and posted a carousel of memories from her time in the Dales. Alongside the snaps she wrote a caption sharing how much Amy meant to her, and a big thank you to everyone involved.

She wrote: “I will never quite have the words to sum up what the last 6 years in Emmerdale has felt like and what it all means to me, but let me try and say a little something. Tonight is Amy Wyatt’s funeral and I have had hundreds of messages from people over the past couple of weeks to say how much they loved her, what a position to be in… to die and hear everyone’s words of praise! Haha. I’m incredibly fortunate and really grateful to all of you who have messaged.

“Of course it’s not really my funeral today but let me say a few words about it all, about how thankful I am to everyone at Emmerdale that I was lucky enough to work with and for meeting many people who will now be friends for life!”

She continued by praising her co-stars: “It all began kicking a bloke in the balls in Belfast when my mam @laura_norts turned up to tell me ‘Kyle needed us.’ I absolutely loved working with Laura from day dot – so funny, so talented. And that was that – back Amy came to the village I fell in Love with the whole thing, the village, the cast, the crew, the show, Leeds, my new friends and my new family! I instantly became Amy Wyatt’s biggest fan.

“My new son @hueyquinn2811 I quickly learned was just delightful! I got a husband @ash.p.x the nicest guy ever, fact, also pretty funny to work with! I loved being on set with @nataliejrobbofficial and Jeff. @oliviabromley_ asked me if I fancied going for steak on my first week at Emmers and the rest is history! @amyvwalsh and I realised we could probably drink just as many cocktails as each other and the rest was history. I have numerous anecdotes like this for most of the cast! Jonny’s dog Molly is often found at my house when she needs a dog sitter, easily part of my family. The list goes on… all because of Emmerdale!!”

Natalie ended her speech as she added: “The opportunities I’ve had, the Big Soap Quiz, Mastermind, numerous award ceremonies, so much fun! All because of Emmerdale.

“What a ride, I will cherish every single part of the journey forever! Thank you for coming on it with me. The biggest thank you goes to the producers and casting team who made me their new Amy. I’ve never been prouder to be part of something that I have been team Emmerdale! I’m team Emmerdale forever. Truly the best.”

Some of Natalie’s co-stars were quick to respond as Ash Pamisciano wrote: “ah love you lots and ash and matty forever heartbroken xxx (ps a bit funny yourself sometimes) ha x”.

Laura Norton added: “Aw, You have been such a joy Nat , so grateful and enthusiastic, always smiling and I know you adored the job so much. You made Amy yours and she was so loveable. We had a blast screen daughter thank you so much. Can’t wait to see what’s next for you. Whatever it is it’ll be REALLY NICE”.
