Coronation Street favourite Sam Aston joined the This Morning sofa on Friday as he gears up for the Dancing On Ice finale.

The actor, renowned for portraying Chesney Brown since 2003, opened up about a shoulder injury and was later touched by heartfelt messages from his fellow soap stars.

Sam is set to compete in the final of the ITV skating show alongside Anton Ferdinand and Michaela Strachan. In conversation with hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, he gave an update on his condition, saying, “It’s fine, yeah, yeah, everything’s good!” after Alison enquired about his dislocated shoulder.

During the chat, all eyes were on the trio as they discussed their icy escapades. Dermot was curious about the dislocation process, asking: “When you dislocate a shoulder, what happens?” to which Alison humorously responded: “It comes out your socket, you have to put it back in!”, leading to Dermot following up with: “Do you have to put it back?” Sam, reassuringly, mentioned their top physio, Sharon, explaining, “No, we’ve got a really good physio, Sharon!”.

The surprises kept coming when heartfelt messages from loved ones and colleagues played for the finalists. Sam’s Corrie co-stars rallied behind him, collectively wishing, “Good luck, Sam!” Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie Winter, chimed in with an affectionate, “You’re brilliant, mate!” Tony Maudsley, cast as George Shuttleworth, shared a “We love you, we miss you!”, playfully noting that they are “We’re keeping it warm for you!” for Sam, referring to his dressing room.

Jane signed off their message with warm words of encouragement and a touch of humour, telling Sam: “We’re very proud of you” followed by a comical caution from everyone: “Don’t fall over!” This light-hearted send-off comes after the reveal last month that Sam endured a bit of onstage misfortune, suffering a dislocated shoulder during rehearsals – thankfully, it was successfully popped back into place, reports Leicestershire Live.

Sam has been a familiar face on Coronation Street since 2003 in the role of lovable Chesney Brown. The excitement ramped up last year when he was unveiled as the fourth famous contestant to lace up for the frosty challenges of ‘Dancing on Ice’.

At the time, an enthused but anxious Sam confessed: “I’m nervous but excited to get going.”

He also disclosed his eagerness for fans to get acquainted with him beyond his Corrie character: “It’s going to be nice for the public to see me for me rather than Chesney.”

Ahead of the show’s climactic conclusion, Sam reflected on his icy adventure in a heartfelt Instagram post: “Heading into the last week feeling super grateful for the experience. And I just want to thank everyone that has got behind me and voted and supported me throughout.”

Embracing the competition with open arms, he continued: “I feel incredibly lucky. If the show has taught me anything – it’s good to get out your comfort zone and really push yourself. Thanks @dancingonice it’s been a blast! Roll on the final.”

Dancing on Ice Final airs Sunday, March 9 on ITV1 and ITVX and This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 10am
