EastEnders fans are convinced that they’ve rumbled a major Mitchell twist – and they think they know who Peggy Mitchell’s secret child is in the BBC soap
EastEnders fans are convinced that Peggy Mitchell had a secret offspring – and they’re sure they know who it is.
Soap icon Peggy, portrayed by Jo Warne and later Barbara Windsor, first graced our screens in 1991 as the mother of Phil (Steve McFadden), Grant (Ross Kemp), and Sam (Danniella Westbrook and Kim Medcalf).
Known for her striking blonde curls and straight-talking demeanour, Peggy quickly became one of the soap’s most cherished and recognisable characters. She was at the heart of numerous major storylines, from managing the legendary Queen Vic pub and battling breast cancer to navigating failed marriages and Mitchell family disputes.
However, in 2016, after nearly three decades on the show, Barbara announced her departure. In gut-wrenching scenes, following the return of her cancer, Peggy took her own life. Now, fans are speculating about a significant Mitchell DNA twist in Albert Square.

According to online chatter, viewers believe she has a secret daughter currently residing in Walford: Nicola Mitchell. Nicola, played by Laura Doddington, made her first appearance earlier this year as Teddy Mitchell’s (Roland Manookian) estranged wife. She wasted no time stirring up trouble, reports Plymouth Live.
This week, she discovered that Teddy’s new flame Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) recently had a fling with Grant, which has put her on the warpath.

The plot thickens in EastEnders as it’s unveiled that the real dad of Barney (played by Lewis Bridgeman) isn’t Teddy as everyone thought, but actually Zack (portrayed by James Farrar), thanks to a past secret fling. And on Thursday’s jaw-dropper of an episode (March 6), Zack laid down an ultimatum: spill the beans to Barney or he’d do it himself.
But here comes the doozy – fans are buzzing with theories that Nicola could be none other than Peggy’s mystery daughter. Gossips are all over the EastEnders Facebook fan page, with one fan dishing: “I would so love if it turned out Nicola was Peggy’s long-lost daughter!” Echoing the sentiment, another added their two cents: “I’ve said this as soon as she first appeared.”
A third piped up: “They are very similar and it would definitely be a big twist!” Meanwhile, one viewer flagged up what could be a rather cringeworthy incest angle: “Wouldn’t that mean Teddy and Nicola are related then? It’s turning into Emmerdale!”.
