Viewers tuning into Emmerdale this week believe they’ve worked out how Joe Tate and his mystery doctor Dr Crowley are connected in a shocking theory.
Joe and his doctor have been having secret phone calls for months, and in recent episodes Crowley finally made an appearance. It comes amid Joe’s secret illness, with fans convinced he is dying.
Crowley had a mystery black case and whatever was in it appeared to be keeping Joe alive. But the pair have a plan to save Joe, and it could see them target another resident.
Joe has been collapsing in recent weeks, with him also in pain and taking medication while the latest episode saw him apparently take a trip for treatment. He’s kept it all under wraps for now with only his doctor knowing the truth.
They spoke of their mystery plan to help him recently, with fans convinced Joe needs an organ transplant to survive and that he might be targeting a loved one to be a donor. As he and Crowley seemed to drug Joe’s brother Noah recently, fans wondered if they were testing him to see if he was a match, and whether Noah or another relative could be in serious danger.

But some fans think there’s more to the plot with Crowley amid Joe’s illness. While some viewers speculated that there was a personal link between the pair given how they were with each other, some fans wondered if a shocking twist could be on the cards.
A new theory is that Dr Crowley doesn’t exist and is in Joe’s imagination amid him being sick. After all, only Joe has seen and spoken to him so far, except for the scene where Noah was being drugged with it not clear what Noah did and didn’t see.
So is Dr Crowley even real? One theory read: “Amazing how that mystery bloke known only to Joe keeps appearing at Home Farm. Is he actually just in Joe’s imagination? Nobody else sees him.” Another fan replied: “That would be a brilliant twist.”
