Joe Tate made plans to leave the Dales after another visit from his doctor

Emmerdale’s Joe Tate bid farewell to the Dales as he announced that he will be heading to Dubai while his mystery illness continues to worsen.

Ned Porteous reprised his role as villainous Joe Tate in 2024 where he turned out to be the puppet master behind Will Taylor’s great revenge plan for Kim Tate.

Things didn’t go as planned, however, as Will unexpectedly died following a severe heart attack at Christmas. Ever since then, fans have grown suspicious over Joe’s true intentions.

Over recent weeks, Joe has been struggling with a mystery health condition that has seen him in severe agony as he dips in and out of consciousness.

Last week, the doctor who Joe had been secretly calling showed up to help him after he collapsed when Ross kidnapped him. As the doctor pointed to a mysterious black box, many fans theorised that he could be on dialysis waiting for a kidney transplant.

During Monday’s (3rd March) episode, Joe Tate revealed that he’s leaving to go to Dubai. It was first mentioned when he attempted to convince half-brother Noah Dingle to move with him, promising a better life.

However, Charity talked her son out of going and after he was spiked and almost hit by the limo, Noah decided to stay in the Dales and make a go at his electrician business at home.

On Monday, Joe’s doctor showed up once again and warned him off seeing Dawn as his body can’t take any “over exertion”, to where Joe informed him that Kim has told him to end things with her.

In true soap fashion, Kim walked in just as the doctor left as Joe said the “treatment” couldn’t come soon enough. As she asked him what he was hiding, Joe replied: “Look, I’m going. I had a trip planned anyway so I’m off, keeping my distance, just as you asked. You win.”

As Joe announced his departure to Dawn, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on his sudden departure.

On a Reddit thread, u/SoapFan85 wrote: “I’m assuming Joe’s big trip for treatment is to continue whatever has been keeping his illness at bay until now, but I wonder if he is up to something or eyeing up a new target given days ago he and his doc said they only had little time for their plan.”

On a Facebook fan page, one viewer penned: “Joe planning to leave for Dubai must just be a cover up. My guess is we’ll see him going through some sort of treatment or suffering alone” as a second viewer replied: “Yeah, my bet is he’ll deteriorate quite quickly and we’ll see what’s wrong.”

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
