ITV Coronation Street fans rumble ‘return’ 20 years after they quit the cobbles

Coronation Street fans think they’ve worked out which character could make a comeback

As Coronation Street fans eagerly follow the unfolding drama surrounding the Platt family, many believe a long-awaited return to the cobbles could be a possibility.

A character who hasn’t been seen in nearly 20 years might be set to come just when Sarah Platt needs it most, Leicestershire Live reports.

In the upcoming episode, David Platt finds himself in a life-or-death situation after making the chilling decision to hire a hitman in order to collect his life insurance money to help him pay off a dangerous debt to Harvey Gaskell.

The tension heightens as David is forced to confront his actions following a devastating fire set by his son, Max Turner. Max’s attempt to stage the fire for an insurance payout backfired, and he now faces a lengthy prison sentence.

The emotional turmoil leaves Sarah Platt isolated, as both her mother, Gail, and daughter, Bethany, have moved away, leaving her with no family support.

Many fans are therefore wondering if Sarah’s long-lost best friend, Candice Stowe, could be the one to offer her a shoulder to cry on. Candice, portrayed by actress Nikki Sanderson, left the cobbles in 2005. Fans fondly remember Sarah and Candice’s close bond, with Sarah travelling to Candice’s wedding in 2007.

Recent reports suggest Sanderson is leaving her role as Maxine Minniver on Hollyoaks after more than a decade, sparking further rumours of a possible Corrie return.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “Candice Stowe, Sarah Louise could use you right about now! #Corrie”, another account wrote: “Is Candice returning to #Corrie @itvcorrie”. Another added: “Bring back Candice!”

It comes as Nikki has opened up about her rumoured exit from the Soap, revealing she would ‘never close herself off’ to a return to the cobbles. In an interview with OK!, she said: “Never say never is my approach.

“I love Candice and I love Coronation Street, so I’d never close myself to anything if they did want me back in the future, that’s the exciting thing about doing what I do. You just never know what might happen next.

“Who knew way back when as a little girl going to drama classes at The Carol Godby Theatre Workshop I’d spend the next 30 years working because of them? I’m under no illusion that it’s much tougher than it used to be out there, but I’m positive and have faith that I’ll achieve all I dream of in life, especially having Anthony, my family, and my friends by my side.”

Coronation Street continues its gripping drama on ITV and ITVX every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
