A Dingle icon on Emmerdale has left fans seriously baffled after hearing their real accent

Emmerdale fans have been left gobsmacked after hearing a Dingle legend’s real voice for the first time.

Actress Jane Cox shot to fame playing Dingle matriarch Lisa – making her debut in 1996. Known for her kindness and resilience, especially when faced with tough situations, Lisa became one of the soap’s most iconic and beloved characters.

She was also involved in several big storylines. From her adored marriage to Zak (Steve Halliwell) to giving birth on Christmas Day 1998, Lisa’s time in the Dales was not short of drama.

During Lisa and Zak’s marriage, they faced many adversities, but the final straw came when Zak’s affair with Joanie Wright (Denise Black) was exposed sparking the end of their marriage. Fortunately, the pair managed to rekindle things – much to the delight of fans.

Jane played Lisa on the soap for decades

However, in 2019, actress Jane Cox decided it was time to hang up Lisa Dingle’s coat for the last time as Jane left Emmerdale for good. At the time, Jane shared the reason for quitting was down to her wanting to “do different things”.

And in scenes that left viewers reaching for tissues, Lisa passed away on her wedding day to Zak, after being diagnosed with a terminal heart condition called amyloid.

Her real voice has shocked fans

Away from the soap though, fans have recently been left open-mouthed after hearing actor Jane’s real voice for the first time. Reacting to an interview with Jane on YouTube, one person wrote: “I’ve been watching for years and didn’t realise how different Lisa sounds!”

Someone else chimed in: “Omg she has a posh accent.” A third also declared: “WOW Jane sounds so different.”

Echoing their thoughts, another fan penned: “She always did a brilliant accent and was one of the original besties!” A fifth then wrote: “Jane’s accent is sooo different than Lisa’s.”

After officially leaving the show in October 2019, Jane has since taken a new direction in her career, studying reflexology. Speaking to Inside Soap, she revealed acting isn’t entirely off the table, but she wants to enjoy life for a while. “I’m available for acting roles, but at the moment I’m just chilling which is a luxury for me,” Jane shared.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
