Coronation Street star Colson Smith gives exit update after ‘storm is coming’ post amid ‘final scripts’

The actor is best known for playing Craig Tinker in ITV soap and has spent almost 14 years in the role

Coronation Street star Colson Smith has given an update on how the filming of his exit is going after revealing he’d recieved his ‘final scripts’.

The actor is best known for playing Craig Tinker in ITV soap and has spent almost 14 years in the role of the young schoolboy-turned-police officer.

But at the start of the year, Colson revealed how he was told last autumn he was being let go from the cast as part of a shake-up on the Street, with new producer Kate Brooks confirming his character had reached the end of the road following the exit of his on-screen mum Beth Tinker, played by actress Lisa George.

In a social media post, shared to X and Instagram alongside a picture of himself portraying Craig as a police officer, he announced: “Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025. I’ve loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world.”

He added: “I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy.”

Now, Colson has revealed how he’s juggling filming his exit alongside preparing to run a marathon. Fans will be aware that the soap star overhauled his lifestyle when he found a love of running during lockdown in 2020 and has since been taking on various challenges to up his running credentials.

Taking to his Instagram Story on Wednesday (February 26) with a picture form his dressing room having but out for a run, Colson said: “Lunch time dash. The time management require to facilitate filming an exit and running a marathon in the same month.”

It comes after he shared pictures from the Trafford-based set, incluing dark clouds hovering over Weatherfield Police Station. Alongside the gloomy snap, he wrote: “A strom is coming…” and who knows whether he went a storm in more way than one when it comes to his exit…

He also shared how he’s been preapring for work, sharing a photo of all his scipt laying out on a table while also having them available on an iPad. Alongside the post, he wrote: “2 highlighters, 1 pen, 1 Ipad Pen.”

It comes after Colson told how he’d received and read his last scripts. Speaking on the new episode of the On the Sofa podcast, which he co-hosts with fellow Corrie star Jack P Shepherd and Nick Tilsley, Colson said: “It feels very real.

“I think it’s that bit of, I didn’t realise how big of a deal it was, actually getting your last scripts and reading it. It’s quite a lot to process and go through, but I’m excited for the work, I’m excited to play the exit, really, I just want it to happen in a weird way.”

Ben then asked: “Are you saying that before you kind of had it in your head that it’s going to go, but seeing it in black and white is the bit where you thought, ‘Oh, I’ve got X amounts of weeks left, this is it…'” Colson admitted: “I’m like, ‘Ok, I’m into the last stretch now, I’ve got four or five weeks and then I’m twiddling my thumbs playing Football Manager’.”
