Emmerdale viewers think Mary has been having an affair off-screen in the ITV soap

Emmerdale fans are ‘certain’ they have worked out Mary Goskirk’s big secret and some villagers will be left reeling. The ITV soap has confirmed that Mary’s (Louise Jameson) bombshell will be explored in an upcoming flashback scene during next week’s episode.

Following the tragic limo crash last week, Mary was left devastated as Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) died on impact. She’d harboured feelings for her friend Suzy for some time, but viewers know that she had reservations about their age gap.

When Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) returned to the Dales last year, Mary was consequently pushed out as Suzy reunited with the village vet.

Next week, the day of Leyla Harding’s (Roxy Shahidi) funeral arrives as she also died in the crash, but Vanessa is reluctant to attend after so much grief and heartache after losing Suzy.

Vanessa texts Mary, explaining that she won’t be coming. Mary steps in to comfort Vanessa, but seems strangely haunted by the situation that she’s in.

A flashback then shares new insight into the day of the limo crash, letting viewers know why Mary feels so guilty. What is she hiding?

Emmerdale fans are convinced Mary and Suzy had shared a romantic moment off-screen on the day of the deadly limo crash.

Taking to Reddit, one viewer suggested: “I think Suzy and Mary have kissed it’s just how they were last week.”

A second replied: “I had this exact feeling when I saw Mary blow that kiss. My immediate thought was, ‘that’s weird, they’ve had no screen interactions for ages’. Then I thought ‘I wonder if something has been happening off-screen’ After April’s disappearance and subsequent flashback episode, it seems the writers like this format.”

A third chimed in: “I thought Mary blowing the kiss so publicly and with Vanessa standing right next to Suzy was very risky. I think they slept together the day/night before and Suzy planned to break up with Vanessa the day after the limo ride. She only went on the limo ride because she promised Kerry she would not because Vanessa was going too.”

“I like Mary too. It’s sad for her that the writers spent months building up to Mary-Suzy only to go and kill off Suzy. That’s just cruel,” explained one fan.
