Coronation Street fans demand ‘justice’ as character’s return blighted by death twist

It was revealed that Julie Carp is dying, shortly after her return to Weatherfield after nearly a decade

Coronation Street fans have issued a demand for ‘justice’ after it was revealed that Julie Carp is dying, shortly after her return to Weatherfield after nearly a decade.

Julie first arrived on the cobbles in 2008 after a holiday romance with Kirk Sutherland. The relationship didn’t work out and when Julie set her sights on Jason Grimshaw her mum was forced to tell her that she was in fact Eileen’s half sister and Jason’s aunt.

After a brief fling with Eileen’s then-boyfriend Jessie Chadwick, who has since married Gail Platt and moved with her to France, Julie found love with newsagent Brian Packham, and they left the street together in 2015.

But when they split up, Brian eventually returned to Weatherfiield without her and Julie hadn’t been since since – until last week when she bumped into her nephew Todd Grimshaw at a tea dance for singles at the Chariot Square hotel.

It was previously confirmed that Julie would be hiding a secret upon her return, and all of this was revealed during Monday night’s episode (February 24).

In an emotional scene, she revealed to Todd that she had been diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, and while it had started in the soft tissue around her stomach, it has now spread to her liver and lungs.

In a further blow to Todd, she admitted that she didn’t have long left to live, with doctors having informed her that she would be lucky to make it to the summer.

Julie went on to explain that her diagnosis was behind her return as she told Todd she was meeting with specialists in the hopes that they could offer treatment to prolong her life.

Todd struggled to take in the news and was even more confirmed when Julie insisted that she didn’t want sister Eileen to know the truth about her devastating health diagnosis.

As the news came out, Corrie fans flocked to social media to share their devastation. @SapphicSoaps said: “I don’t understand why Corrie has brought back a character that could bring so much fun and happiness to the street when it desperately needs it! but they have of course made her sick and given her a a depressing storyline. GIVE US SOME LIGHT PLEASE!!! justice for Julie!!”

@ConversationStr commented: “Well done Corrie – two episodes in and you’ve successfully and irreparably ruined Julie’s comeback story. We’re honestly speechless after tonight’s development.” @corriepodcast shared: “No, #corrie. When we said we wanted Julie Carp back, we didn’t say we wanted her to be terminally ill.”

@swarlatakenover posted: “Bringing back Julie just too kill her off. Unbelievable. #Corrie.” @RyanTheSoapking added: “I hate how they’ve brought Julie back just to kill her off. She deserved better! #Corrie.”
