Everyone in the Dales struggles to come to terms with the great loss of last week

Emmerdale has had a gloomy few weeks as three deaths were confirmed in last week’s limo crash, as well as a body being discovered under the water.

While the villagers try to regain some sense of normality after the tragic events, the ghosts of past decisions continue to haunt the residents of the Dales.

Now that April has returned home, Marlon has struggled to get through to her as she keeps closing him off while trying to adjust to her old life after her ordeal. Awoken in the night, Marlon sneaks to the kitchen to find April, who’s furious to realise Marlon still doesn’t trust her. Marlon grapples with what to do next when his attempts to explain his actions only make April angrier.

Later on, viewers watch as April manages to gain access to the derelict squat where she has an unexpected and emotional reunion with Dylan – who was her close friend during her time living rough.

Soon after, Marlon arrives and rushes to conclusions, walling up Dylan. With the tensions high at the squat, April is adamant Marlon doesn’t understand what she went through. Dylan manages to encourage April to go back to Marlon, and April agrees while asking her dad to give her more space.

The following day, Marlon can’t hide his worry as he spots Dylan in the village. April springs to his defence revealing she invited him. April tries to convince Dylan he belongs in a village like Emmerdale before Marlon arrives wanting a word. As the pair bicker over what’s best for Dylan, Marlon eventually caves, agreeing to speak to Rhona about letting Dylan stay the night.

Elsewhere in the village, Jacob is burning the candle at both ends and struggles to cope in the wake of his mum’s death. Leyla Harding was the second confirmed tragedy after being impaled with a piece of ice during the crash.

He suffers a panic attack at work and later, Jacob drinks with Rich at the Hide, leaving Belle and Laurel concerned. As things escalate, Rich is concerned for Jacob who continues to bury his pain.

Sarah tries to talk him down, but is pushed aside leaving her feeling hurt and confused as Jacob tells her to stay away. Sarah struggles to deal with Jacob’s reaction and nervously looks at an unopened pregnancy test in her bag.

The next day, as the villagers prepare for the difficult day ahead, Sarah prepares to take a pregnancy test. A little while later, the villagers gather outside the church, dressed for a funeral. As she prepares herself to read the results, she has to cope with the positive pregnancy result on her own.

During a funeral in the village, Mary receives a text from Vanessa telling her she isn’t coming. Later, a haunted Mary comforts teary Vanessa but in a flashback to the day of the limo crash, the audience gets a glimpse into why Mary feels such guilt.

Elsewhere on the same day, Tracy struggles as she suffers from a flashback of the night of the limo crash. Manpreet also panics when Liam picks up her phone by accident leaving Chas suspicious.

Cain is left distraught as Moira asks him to move out of their home after he admitted he slept with Ruby while Moira was having life-changing surgery. As she decides to call quits on their relationship, they’re both quietly devastated as the breakdown of their marriage becomes a reality.

Moira is full of relief when she’s told she has got the all clear. Cain and Moira make the final preparations to tell Kyle and Isaac about their break-up. As the guests arrive in the woods for a funeral, and emotional eulogy.

In another part of the village, Joe Tate surprises Dawn as he reveals he’s decided to go away and leave the village due to Kim. She becomes horrified as she learns that Kim knows all about her affair with Joe.
