Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown hails co-star as ‘queen’ amid fans’ demand over exit

Fans know that the actress is currently preparing for her character Dee-Dee Bailey to become a first-time mum

Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown as hailed her co-star a ‘queen’ amid fans’ demand for them not to be axed from the long-running show.

The actress is currently preparing for her character Dee-Dee Bailey to become a first-time mum. Dee-Dee had quite a turbulent end to 2024 having discovered her fiancé was a serial groomer.

As fans of the ITV soap know, Joel Deering arrived on the cobbles in September 2023 as a charming solicitor who Dee-Dee soon fell head over heels in love with. But under his smooth exterior Joel was hiding a dark secret – a penchant for younger, underprivileged girls – including Lauren Bolton.

When the truth came out, he quickly found himself as public enemy number one as Dee-Dee teamed up with DS Lisa Swain to bring him down once and for all. He disappeared before justice could be done and it was later presumed he had taken his own life. But, after his body washed up in a lake and was found by a bunch of teenagers, it was confirmed he had been killed with a heavy weapon before entering the water.

Several Weatherfield residents were put in the frame – Dee-Dee, her father Ed, her uncle Ronnie, Mason Radcliffe, Lisa, Carla Connor, DC Kit Green and finally Max Turner and Lauren. It was then revealed that it was Lauren who dealt the final blow that killed Joel as he attacked her boyfriend Max in a train track confrontation.

In a new post on social media, Channique gave a hint at who Dee-Dee will be interacting with in upcoming scenes as she posed for a beaming selfie with her co-star Sue Devaney.

Fans of Corrie know that Sue is famed for playing Weatherfield’s Debbie Webster. But they were gutted to learn that the much-loved character will be given a devastating health diagnosis in upcoming scenes.

It was reported last year that the beloved character would be ‘killed off’ in 2025 in a heartbreaking storyline. Debbie will be diagnosed with dementia marking a huge final storyline for actress Sue. Her original stint on the show only lasted one year but she has been a firm favourite ever since re-joining in 2019.

Sharing the snap of the pair filming on the famous Street at Corrie’s Trafford-based set, Channique wrote on her Instagram Story: “Scenes with the Queen,” before tagging their location as ‘Coronation Street’.

It was just last month that Corrie fans were calling for Debbie to stay on the cobbles. The scenes at the time saw Debbie confronting a drunken Leanne Battersby as she confronted her in the Bistro for making a pass at her partner Ronnie Bailey.

Following the scenes, Corrie fans flocked to social media to hail Sue’s performance. @jonnymgdraws said: “Just look at that… Iconic Corrie character vibes. We must save Debbie Webster at all costs. #corrie #coronationstreet.” @jonnymgdraws commented: “Debbie was on screen for -5 minutes and was probably the best part of the whole hour. Yet they’re killing her off. Madness. #corrie #coronationstreet.”@williams1980 posted: “Fab scenes with Debbie tonight ! Massive mistake axing this character! #Corrie.”
